1967 - The Lion Fortress

New parcel rate

The rate for domestic parcels, 1 - 3 kg, was raised in the beginning of 1967 from 3.50 kr to 3.70 kr and in February a new definitive stamp covering that rate was issued, The Lion Fortress, violet. It succeeded the pioneering  3.50 kr Ale’s Stones grey/olive-green. In January 1969 there was again a single use for the Ale’s Stones for the domestic parcel  - 1 kg rate, but then there were instead no longer any single use for the Lion Fortress. The artist was Stig Åsberg and it was engraved by Heinz Gutschmidt.

1967 was really the year of new definitive stamps, the Lion Fortress for parcels, the 35 öre Fjeld for postcards, the 4.50 kr Uppsala Cathedral and the 7 kr Gripsholm Castle for parcels, then completely new kind of slot-machine booklet the Iron Age Öland and the new series just plainly called new Definitive Stamps. A remarkable year one might say.
